WEST INDIAN STUDENTS OF MANITOBA ALUMNI | SCHOLARSHIP

WISMA ORIGINS

WISMA was created in Manitoba when a small group of former West Indian post secondary students reflected upon how fortunate they were to be embraced and supported by the people of Manitoba. When they were new immigrants to Manitoba, they needed the network of help and support to be able to study and become the leaders they are today.

Upon that reflection, they wondered if there are West Indian people who have similar potential for leadership and success, but could not realize that potential because they lacked opportunity, support, and a network. That's when WISMA was born.

About WISMA

WISMA loves the people and respects the land all throughout Turtle Island. As Caribbean people we humbly acknowledge that we have made our new homes on Treaty 1 Land. It is only because we have been welcomed by the Indigenous People of Treaty 1 that we have been able to prosper and help other people of West Indian heritage prosper here in Manitoba.
